The Chameleons Present An Ideal Husband

AIH

Here at The Chameleons, we have much to celebrate so get out the confetti and join us this week for An Ideal Husband by Oscar Wilde. Starting on Thursday, we bring you our latest production, centred on blackmail and corruption in London society. The news doesn’t stop there with two important members of the team also embarking on their very own special journey!

For those not so familiar with this story, Wilde poses the question, what makes An Ideal Husband in a way that only his wit and charm can manage. Whilst the audiences decide, the director certainly hopes she’s found the answer because, a matter of weeks prior to curtain up, she’s married the Stage Manager!

After twenty five years together, Sally Crowley and Denis O’Brien tied the knot at a local registry service on Saturday 24th May in front of close family. In a tale that could be straight out of a play, the ceremony was kept a secret from all barring the florist with the family told to attend a celebratory lunch but nothing more. Their four children were there to witness the occasion and, with Sally a lifelong Queens Park Rangers fan, the drama continued with the backdrop changing to Wembley Stadium for a nail-biting ninetieth minute victory over Derby County!

Its incredible news and it came as such a lovely surprise to us all. The society is overjoyed as we’re all very fond of the both of them! They make a great team, on and off the stage and we’re sure Sir Den (as we know him) will make the ‘Ideal Husband’.

The Chameleons have been entertaining the community with both plays and pantomime since 1966 and Oscar Wilde has featured on many occasions with productions of The Importance of Being Earnest, Lord Arthur Savile’s Crime and Lady Windermere’s Fan. Our latest production is all set to follow in this tradition and we would be delighted to invite you to the celebrations. Oh and here’s a sneak preview picture featuring one of three exciting debut performers Becky Ely in the role of Miss Mabel Chilton alongside Robert Spolander as Lord Goring.

“An Ideal Husband” by Oscar Wilde to be performed 12th – 15th June 2014 and will be performed at Kingsland Hall United Reformed Church, East Lane, Wembley HA9 7NN.

Sir Robert Chiltern is a successful Government minister, well-off and with a loving wife. All this is threatened when Mrs Cheveley appears in London with damning evidence of a past misdeed. Sir Robert turns for help to his friend Lord Goring, an apparently idle philanderer and the despair of his father. As the lies begin to fly, it’s revealed that the man thought to be perfect is flawed, the man with all the flaws must do something right, and the question remains: what makes an ideal husband?

We are also pleased to welcome back Sally O’Brien to the directors chair.
